Note For Closed Beta Testers

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

There was a erroneous message on Square Enix’s website yesterday saying that Closed Beta testers need not register for a new key. However we have now learn that they in fact do. This is the message issued from Square Enix;

Acquisition of Registration Code for the Open Beta Test
We have an important announcement to the testers who have participated in FINAL FANTASY XIV Closed Beta Test.
Between 19:00 and 19:50 (PDT) on Sep. 1, 2010, an incorrect notice saying “Participants of closed beta test do not need to obtain new registration code for the open beta test.” was being made on FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test Application Site.

Participants of closed beta test also need to obtain and register dedicated registration code for the open beta test. Please follow the directions listed in the mail “Guide to the FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test,” which was sent to the participants of closed beta test on Aug. 31, 2010, and obtain the registration code from FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test Application Site.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Minor FF14 informational updates

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

The Unconfirmed Rumours, Battle System and Classes pages have all received a minor update based on information gleaned from the new Dengeki Games magazine. There was not much new information here, merely reiterated versions of the content we are familiar with, but there were some small tidbits which were worth including, this consists of a new Disciple of War class, more information about the various gauges in the battle system and the possibility of a trading arena for players.

More Final Fantasy Interviews and a general update

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

The interviews just keep coming, we’ve added a couple more to our database, these were done during the GamesCom with the duo Tanaka and Sundi. There is some interesting information there but a lot of it is repeated. We also have updated our Classes page as well as our Battle System page with some more information that was gleaned from the interviews and other sources, so be sure to check them out.

A couple more Final Fantasy 14 updates

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

Just a couple of small updates this time round. To add to the screenshots we gave you the other day we have added some art work that became available during GamesCom 09. These images depict some jobs/classes that characters can be and also some monsters, some of which you will be very familiar with.

Secondly (and rather belatedly, sorry!) we have added the technical demo from 2005. For those of you that don’t know, Square Enix released a mysterious technical demo in 2005 under the ‘Rapture’ moniker, which we now know as Final Fantasy 14. This shows how long this game has been under development for (and I must say, they did a very good job keeping it secret).

Enjoy!

For those of you waiting for Final Fantasy XBox 360 news…

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

Here is a quote from the Square Enix Final Fantasy 14 development team:

“FFXI for 360; at that point PS2 didn’t have a hard disc [and] that was really difficult for us, but Xbox 360 had that from the beginning, so that really helped us. We managed to smoothly move onto 360 from the Windows version, so that was very good to us,”

“However, for FFXIV, because 360 has its own policy with Xbox Live that is different from [the] internet, that’s something we’re in discussions with Microsoft [about], to come to an agreement. That’s one of the reasons it’s not going to be launched at that point.”

More Final Fantasy 14 Updates

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

GamesCom keeps rolling and more information keeps being added. Yesterday saw more media being released, as well as another interview. Whilst it isn’t epic in the addition to our knowledge base, these new videos give us a good insight into the user interface, something which is very important for the game. With a cumbersome interface, the enjoyment from the game could be severely limited, no matter how good the game actually us.

So check it out and give us your opinions in our forums?

Final Fantasy 14 GamesCom 09 Update

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

So GamesCom is upon us. It opened its doors yesterday to the public and a day later there has been some considerable addition to the amount of knowledge that we know about Final Fantasy XIV. So far this is mainly in the form of videos but there has been some new interviews conducted with the development team and thus pages from our Confirmed Details, Jobs / Classes and Battle System pages have been updated accordingly.

Square Enix also gave us a (albeit very slight) little more information regarding beta testing. They aim to roll out their beta testing phase this year, so at it’s very worst, you only have 4 months to wait till this phase!

The main points that emerged seem to be the following:

  • Beta testing is being targeted to commence in 2009
  • No zoning – the world will be entirely seamless
  • You cannot change weapons in mid-battle
  • As of now there are no summons – but there may be in the future
  • Negotiations with Microsoft are taking place (but they have been for a while)
  • The game is roughly 50% complete
  • Square Enix are planning an open Beta

So please enjoy our updates whilst we await further information regarding the emerging news during the rest of the week.

Massive Final Fantasy 14 Update!

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

Wow, it’s been a busy week for Final Fantasy 14 information. After a quiet period of over a month we suddenly get a deluge of information, very valuable information too.

I’ll give you a quick summary of what has been updated. Firstly the Confirmed Details page had to be revised to account for new information. The Battle System page contains a bit of new information (apparently battles will in fact be in real time), we learn more about Eorzea in the Introduction and Eorzea pages, giving a history of the world and the names and descriptions of cities within Eorzea respectively.

The best bit of content given to us by Square has to be the Job System information. Termed the ‘Armoury’ system, we have learnt that equipping different weapons instantly changes your class, meaning you will not be restricted to any one or two classes and can build a very flexible and unique character which knows a variety of skills from many classes. Read the jobs page for more.

The races have also been confirmed, at least the counterparts to the Final Fantasy 11 races anyway, there has been no mention of any new races that may be included in Final Fantasy 14.

Finally we have more media, with images of each city-state in Eorzea as well as more in-game screenshots pulled from the official website.

We’ve got a couple more bits coming (Guildleves in particular) that are currently being drafted but I hope you enjoy the content that has been updated for you this week.

I wont post links below as there are far too many sections that have been updated, but instead I shall wish you happy browsing!
