I would like to know what SE is going to do with the Auction House system. I’m sure others like me on FFXI hate the fact that you can only put 7 different items on the AH at a time. If you had more you had to Bazaar it or wait days for items on AH to sell so you can but the rest up for sell. Either way your inventory space is being used up holding on to things you don’t need or want. in order to save your own inventory from this is to have a “Mule.” Which costed us an additional $1 per month. Doesn’t sound right does it.

  2. Walker says:

looking at this “wheel” tends to make me wonder, quite possibly that at the start most of the characters are all the same for the most part and will spread out in individual ways as they progress, more like a ripple in a pond

  3. faron says:

I think the Picture is more like a roulette wheel…. i think that they are trying to portray the fact that you can change jobs and become anything at any time as explained by the main website..

  4. Kurifu says:

Could Chocobos be used as pack mules? You see on carrying gear in the trailer.

    • deadscarlet says:

I also believe that if the chocobos are not steeds and it seems that you may have to be able to carry more equipment for changing jobs on the fly then you will need something like a pack mule to possibly help carry your gear and other items.

I don’t know about looking at the logo for details on the battle system, but as for the levelling system not having xp and being based on what weapons you use… doesn’t this sound a lot like Saga Frontier? It’s a Squaresoft game from back in the day on the PS1 and it was exactly as described. You would battle, and at the end of battle you may or may not get bonuses to your statistics that were based on what actions your character performed in the battle. Melee weapons made your character stronger and faster, guns made you faster and more accurate, magic made you a better caster, etc. In addition, you would gain other statistics similarly. You gained max HP by taking damage, max MP by casting spells, and max Weapon Points (or tech points or whatever) by using your weapons.

This would satisfy their explanation completely. A melee fighter who served as a tank would be exceptionally tough and phystically strong, while a caster who stayed on the back lines would be frail, but magically potent. Essentially, the job system would still be there, people would just decide their job by play style rather than picking a vocation that denied them access to all other abilities.

  6. Adam says:

Not sure what this points at..but if you look at the face in the front center of the logo (looks like its looking back at you)..it is a near exact match for the logo used in final fantasy 3. (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/sean.d.fowler/ffl/jpeg/ff3_logo.jpeg)

  7. squirrilywrath says:

It could just be like Final Fantasy 9 for levelling. It says you have to use weapons to level and maybe you will have to play through the game story to unlock the weapons so you don’t spent very large amount of time killing mobs. It could be like the license system of FF12, so you play thought the story etc and get the license then the weapon or do a quest for it.

I would much prefer this. That way its makes people stop and do quests unlike FF11 where finding a group to do em is hard because everyone is levelling, killing the same mob for hours.

  8. MrKyleOnline says:

When looking at the logo, I think that the new “development” of characters that they have in store is definitely based on weapons. I believe that weapons will probably give you a certain skill or magic ability when equip that you can learn after training or mastering the technique over time. MAYBE armor will give you defensive techniques and weapons will give you offensive ones?

You will probably declare a job type and then you can equip armor and weapons based on what that job allows you to (WHM > cloth + staffs, WAR > mail + swords).

I’ve also read that the development team is looking into other FFs for insight. FF2 had a system that might be worth looking into… and the similarities are beginning to show.

  9. Riggijee says:

From the looks of the combat in the trailer, it looks as if FFXIV is going to take on a more familiar FF-style turn-based combat system, as opposed to the more MMORPG-style “run up and auto attack and use abilities as needed” gameplay as seen in FFXI.

Though I’m sure what was shown in the trailer was far from a finalized version of the combat system, and may have just been spiced up a bit to have a greater impact on those watching.

  10. Webmaster says:

Square Enix have told us to look at the logo for hints on the battle system and on the logo we can see many pole-arm weapons and swords. However there are no staves or magic-orientated weapons. This may imply that everyone is a magic user in FF14 and also fits in with the Square Enix statement that they have scaled down the heavy emphasis on team play to focus on solo play too. With every individual being a magic user, players could fend for themselves without reliance on specific classes

    • ManicPanic says:

If you look near the center of the logo though you can see two taru taru. The one near the top center [to the right of the galka in the center] holds what looks to be a staff or a wand.

The taru taru below looks to be holding what looks like either a ring weapon (Chakram?) or possibly even an instrument like a tambourine.

I’m guessing the weapons on the edge of the logo are the variety used to fend off and attack enemies while the support classes in the middle nuke and buff the group. The two Taru Taru in the middle could be one of the mage classes and a dancer or bard class maybe.

      • Cursingbulldog says:

The taru you mention holding the wand actually appears to be dual-wielding axes though it is slightly difficult to tell because the body is not very distinct due to what i assume to be a robe for armor.

I also noticed that there is one character using what seems to be a gun, the chakram on the center taru and an archer character, leading to be that there will be a multitude of different ranged weapons.

What confuses me the most is the large armor-less character just off center of the image. You can mostly see muscle definition through the shoulders, but the area of the stomach doesn’t really fit, it just seems like the thick lines there are supposed to be something. Tattoos? Campfire? Something else? I don’t know.
